Jamilah believes access to high-quality public schools is key to ensuring opportunity and prosperity in the City of St. Louis. For her, a quality education isn’t a talking point — it’s a core value. And, she’ll make sure our city’s budget reflects it.
For years, Jamilah has fought to expand educational opportunities and promote our public schools as both a legislator and an activist.
Her education record can’t be matched:
- Founded the Fresh Start Academy to give students a second chance and break the dropout cycle
- Secured $7 million in new funding for local education efforts in the 2018 state budget
- Partnered with teachers to raise school standards and keep kids in them
- Passed the law allowing Harris-Stowe to offer graduate programs for the first time in its history.
As President of the Board of Aldermen, Jamilah will continue delivering results for our public schools.
She’s committed to stopping the tax giveaways that divert millions in funding away from our schools and into the pockets of big developers. And she’ll work to return our schools to local control, so that parents and the local community have a more direct involvement in our students’ futures.
Most importantly, she’ll collaborate with the school district to make sure our children are safe at school and at home.
