While Lewis Reed follows the orders of his contributors and consultants — changing his position and avoiding taking a tough stand — Jamilah Nasheed is fighting to protect the voices of Our City’s people in determining Our City’s future.
Jamilah has made it clear that the airport privatization process being pursued by Lewis Reed is fatally flawed. The lack of transparency has tainted the process to its core.
That’s why she’s pledged to vote “no” on the proposal being pushed by Grow Missouri, Inc.
As President of the Board of Aldermen, Jamilah will stop this flawed process in its tracks and ensure ANY airport privatization push gives the people the final say.
If privatization proponents want to restart the process with one that’s unbiased and fair, Jamilah has promised to keep an open mind because she believes our city needs to consider big, bold options instead of rejecting ideas before they’ve even been presented.
But no matter what’s put forward, Jamilah will look to these conditions to determine her ultimate support:
- Improve the Airport
- Any proposal must make the airport better. Whether it’s more direct flights, better services or simply a better experience at Lambert, privatization must improve the airport for those who use it.
- A Long-Term Solution
- Any proposal needs to be a good long-term deal for St. Louis. It can’t be a short-term solution that sacrifices long-term stability for a one-time cash infusion.
- Protect Workers
- Any proposal needs to maintain collective bargaining agreements and protect the rights and benefits of Lambert workers.
- Fair and Open Process
- Any proposal needs to be pursued via an open process without conflicts of interest
It’s no guarantee another proposal could meet those criteria. But you can be sure of this: Jamilah will oppose any proposal that does not.
